Dr. Rawdin will begin the process by preparing your tooth with traditional techniques before fitting a crown. From there, instead of taking a conventional impression of your tooth, he will take a digital picture using the CEREC camera.
Using CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, the CEREC software converts this picture to a 3-D virtual model of your tooth.
Once the design of your tooth is completed, Dr. Rawdin sends the data to the on-site CEREC milling unit. This design will be perfectly reproduced by diamond-coated instruments that mill a ceramic block. Available in a wide variety of shades and colors, the block that matches your surrounding teeth will be selected, and the entire process takes under 30 minutes.
Once the milling process is complete, Dr. Rawdin will polish the filling or crown, then properly bond it into place. The crown is sure to fit perfectly, due to the precision of the design process. Your new and greatly improved tooth is then polished, resulting in a smooth and natural look and feel.
That's it! You don’t have to go through any messy impressions, temporary dental crowns, or multiple appointments. In fact, the whole procedure usually takes no more than an hour and a half.
